In the past Armistice Day commemoration have been low key in New Zealand with
the main day of remembrance being held on ANZAC Day, the 25th of April. However in
2001 the small rural Waikato township of Cambridge decided to commemorate both the
end of WWI and also the liberation of Le Quesnoy by the 3rd New Zealand Rifle
Brigade.
Le Quesnoy, located in the North East of France is the Sister City to Cambridge and was
liberated on the 4th of November 1918, just seven days before the ending of the war.
The event is now held annually on the closet weekend to the 11th of November. It has been
so successful that the original one day Commemoration is now an entire weekend and has
moved to the local sports ground to meet the increase requirement of the event.

this regular event on the NZMVCC Calendar.
